Take the time and effort to Know yourself...

1.4.16

A minha Mama fez anos ontem. Ansiedade.
O segredo é estar presente no momento.

... Today I decided to try to fall asleep later to see if I break the cycle of insomnia. So I'm so exhausted that there is no alternative but to sleep all through the night. Well, this is the plan.
It was my Mama's birthday yesterday. 62 celebrated at dinner. This is one of the benefits of having children early. She's in for the curves to put up with and pamper the grandchildren. One of the things she received was a book - "Getting young to old." I can't remember now the doctor's name, but the book was commented during much of the dessert. Speaks of ailments that strikes us as we age and some things that can help just as the necessary vitamins, the importance of water, food, and what is unbalances for both men (andropause) and women in menopause. Of course, I'll just look for the chapter that speaks of my (chronic) problem. Anxiety. It's not the first time that I speak here of the subject and it will most likely not be the last. Because it really is something that speaks to my heart (literally when it gets galloping like crazy for no apparent reason). Treatment, if there is one, was nothing new to me. Vitamin D (sun, sun) exercise and therapy (which work better for us, in my case, was psychotherapy and the best psychologist in the world). The book says that Portugal, after Uruguay and Belgium is the most consumer country of anxiolytics drugs. I wonder if this is a sign of the times. Why so many people spend at least a time of their lives in this hell? We all react differently and are affected differently. But anxiety touches almost everyone. By the way, I want to say here that since I saw a glimpse of the musician's Agir interview in Alta Definição, the kid earned my admiration. He speaks with a maturity and consistency unexpected and apparently panic attacks ended up saving his life.
The truth is that anxiety more severe or mild already touched everyone I know. Mother, Grandfather - who hated sites with a lot of people, or things that would flee his routine - cousin (yes cousin i'm talking about you!) Friends, friends of friends etc. I wonder if it's something that has always existed or if it's a thing of these new times? I mean, stress, worries, dangers, always existed. world wars, hungers, natural disasters, illness, divorce, or worse - there were fewer divorces and more couples "stuck" in an unhappy marriage. There is this freedom or this social acceptance that we must fight for our happiness, even if it means a painful divorce. I can only then understand that today there is more information and we talk about it more such as the importance of mental health. Just as important as physical health. I believe that the medical community is prepared to diagnose and identify the problem. I believe that information is everything. To complement this everything we must be willing to make the effort to work for the self-knowledge, to find what works for us (which is not the same as to our friend's) and discover the background that triggers anxiety. Because it's always a warning sign that something needs to be changed. It's very hard to face it as a friend (i would liked to see it far far away) but from the moment that we face it like that, there's a click and everything changes. Physical symptoms are a sign of what the mind can not or doesn't want to deal. These are psychosomatic symptoms. I found (in my psychotherapy) that there are people who spend years, yes years! with a facial paralysis for example, or with a chronic pain and everything is from the mind and emotional problems.
Aren't we fantastically complex?
I have many years of research. Many work of self-knowledge and I believe that I have not yet come to know me at all. I wish I already had some knowledge during my first panic attack FYI: it is always the worst of all! We really believe life will end right there. The first one threw me to the hospital, I left without a diagnosis and with pills for an heart failure. I was left even more panicked !! I was 18 years old, first year of college, I was getting my car license, my father had suffered an heart attack (all went well), I was spending nights alone at home taking care of my brother, followed by nights out with friends and coffee doses to endure the day. It was the perfect recipe for panic attacks. I believe that the physical part has its weight, because to me coffee and all kinds of stimulants affect me a lot and there are those who take 7 coffees and 2 red bulls and feel great. The next panic attack that I had to resort to the hospital, I entered the emergency room saying: I'm having straight panic attacks, I am not able to calm myself. Phrase fundamental: I need help. No, I have no heart trouble, here are the 44 electrocardiograms I've done.
As I mentioned, what works for me does not work for everyone and vice versa. I am very anti-drugs although I believe there are here to help us. I bought Victan and it spent months in my wallet and if I took one or two it was too many. What resulted for me? (And I have spoken in psychotherapy that I defend with my life) Laughing. Since a certain day that i was washed in tears I told to my brother: Brother .. I'm tired. I can't take it anymore. I'm constantly feel i'm about to faint. I have no strength left. He gets up and makes the most hilarious imitation of me. With his legs shaking and bumping into walls and with female voice he said: ai'm going to faint, oh I'm going to faint. I was laughter so hard that anxiety, tears or this pseudo-fainting didn't t have anymore space to fill in my head. From there I never stopped laughing. And most of the time is about myself. The secret is to be present in the moment. I feel the anxiety coming, but my kid speaks to me and I concentrate in what he is saying, in the way he wets the top lip in the middle of his sentences, the way he opens his eyes as if he would expressed himself better, his still long and curved eyelashes, his milk teeth that insist on not falling .. seriously, I know you exist, anxiety and you are there always waiting for the moment I feel more fragile, but you'll never going to stop me from laughing.
1:59 in the morning. Silence at home. Wait .. unless the deafening noise of the cat licking himself, purring and leaning against me almost makes me feel i'm in a motor boat.
I'll try to put my plan into action.
